Linping is a quieter residential district in the north-east, built around its high-speed rail station. It is where households go when they want space, new buildings and a much lower rent, and can accept a longer commute.

Living in Linping District
Linping New City is the modern face of the district: wide roads, new schools, large compounds and a shopping centre, all served by metro. Nanyuan is older and more established. Tangqi, further north, is an ancient canal town where the pace drops completely. This is not a district for nightlife, but it is one of the few places where a family can rent a three-bedroom for under 7,000 CNY.
Neighbourhoods worth knowing
Linping District is not one market. These are the three pockets foreign tenants ask about most, and what each one actually feels like to live in.
Linping New City 临平新城
New build, wide streets, schools and a mall, with metro access to the city centre. The obvious choice for families.
Nanyuan 南苑
Established residential streets with local markets and schools. Cheaper than New City and more lived-in.
Tangqi 塘栖
An ancient canal town with low-rise housing and almost no traffic. Beautiful and very quiet; a car is essential.

Is Linping too far out?
It depends on where you work. For the CBD it is a long commute; for the north-east industrial and logistics parks it is the closest practical option.
What does rent cost in Linping?
Studios start near 2,800 CNY, two-bedrooms sit around 4,800 to 7,000, and three-bedrooms 6,500 to 9,000. It is the cheapest of the eight districts on average.
Are there good schools in Linping?
There are strong local public schools, particularly in Linping New City. International schools are not in the district, so families needing an international curriculum usually look at Xihu or Binjiang.
Is Tangqi practical for daily life?
It is beautiful but rural in feel. You will need a car, and the drive to Linping New City for shopping is about fifteen minutes.
Is it easy to get to Shanghai?
Yes. Linping has rail connections to the north-east corridor and Hangzhou East Station is 35 to 40 minutes away for high-speed services.
